Guitar Tuition

It is my aim for my students to become as rounded and confident a musician and guitarist as possible.

Guitar Tuition in Sevenoaks, Kent and surrounding areas

I teach guitar lessons in a wide range of styles from classic rock and blues, to modern rock and metal to acoustic finger style and country to contemporary pop, funk and classical. I also teach bass guitar.

To accomplish this, I feel it is important to study all aspects of playing. These include:

  • Music Theory

Chords, scales, modes, arpeggios and how to use them. People are often intimidated by this subject but this need not be the case. We will demystify this subject together.

  • Music Reading

Not considered very rock and roll by some, but a skill, when embraced even at a basic level, can take your guitar playing skills to the next level.

  • Technique

Including practice regimes, what to practice and for how long. All guitar techniques covered from basic strumming to hybrid picking, economy picking and advanced sweeping and tapping.

  • Ear Training

Recognising intervals, the distance between one note and another, is a vital skill that can be used to learn parts quickly and will allow you to work out your favourite guitar riffs and songs more easily.

Teaching guitar out of my studio in central Sevenoaks, I also offer grades across many boards with a 100% pass rate, including Rock School and Trinity up to Grade 8 and beyond. I am DBS checked (formerly CRB) and I teach guitar to all ages from seven to seventy!

Beginners welcome!

Music Degree

Learning guitar is an ongoing, never-ending and continually rewarding process. I recently completed a BA degree in Creative Music Performance gainng First Class Honours.

It was a challenging programme of study where I learned a lot more than skills in musicianship. I hope to be able to pass this new learning onto you, my students, as you continue to reach new heights in your own musical journeys.

Onwards, upwards and rock on!

Owing to the recent events and current concerns, I have begun to deliver guitar tuition via Teams, Zoom, FaceTime etc as well as from my teaching studio, close to several schools, in central Sevenoaks, Kent.

What my students say

  • Steve S

I thought you would like to know Theo got a distinction star for his A level music. Many thanks for all you have done.

  • David H

The challenges of barre chords and palm muting keep me awake at night and my ongoing inability to master them are enough to send anybody bonkers.

I have found Richard to be the perfect combination of a calm and understanding guitar teacher mixed with a very talented rock star. I am very pleased to have stumbled across Richard—he comes highly recommended.

  • Andy V

Richard has been teaching me for several years. He has sympathetically dealt with my lack of natural musical ability, taking me systematically through the basics of electric and acoustic guitar playing. Richard’s lessons are relaxed and friendly. I particularly like the way he always finds suitable examples of my kind of music to demonstrate his points and for me then to tackle. I continue to much enjoy and benefit from our lessons.

  • Susan L

I have known Richard Morse for over 15 years as guitar teacher for my two sons and would not hesitate to recommend him.

His attitude to his pupils, experience and expertise, general manner and charming personality, all contribute to his well-deserved, excellent reputation.

  • Andy & Jo M

Jo and I wanted to say a big thank you for being a great guitar teacher for Leo. He has thrived under your teaching. We’ll make sure we get plenty of practice in over the summer holidays ready for the next school year.

  • Will B

Dear Mr Morse thank you for being the best guitar teacher I could have asked for. I learn a lot in your lessons and I will always play the guitar because you’ve given me such a great head start. I really enjoy your lessons and think it’s really cool that I get to learn with a professional musician.
